What to expect

More than a simple aquarium, the City of the Sea is a real theme park entirely dedicated to the oceans and the adventure of the seas. Located in the heart of the former Transatlantic Maritime Station of Cherbourg, this unique site in France offers its visitors countless activities. The kids will be thrilled!

On the programme for the festivities? The discovery of some 1200 fish, all more colorful than the other, populating the 17 basins of the oceanographic complex. History and adventure lovers will discover an exceptional collection of emblematic deep-sea diving equipment. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a virtual adventure in the heart of the deep sea. The City of the Sea also offers to relive the history of the Titanic, through countless unique and poignant testimonies

The highlight of the visit? The discovery of the Redoutable, the largest submarine in the world.

###Opening hours of the Cité de la Mer
April 1 to June 30 : 9:30 am to 6 pm
July 1 to August 31 : 9:30 am to 7 pm
September 1 to 30 : 9:30 am to 6 pm
October 1st to December 31st : 10am to 6pm

The Cité de la Mer will be closed on Mondays 5, 12, 19 and 26 November 2018, Mondays 3, 10 and 17 December 2018 and Tuesday 25 December 2018.

City of the Sea In a few words

A real leisure park, the Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg is composed of 5 zones:

The great gallery of machines and men : discover the champions of deep diving
Aquariums : stroll amongst the 17 aquariums with their 1000 tropical fish
Le Redoutable : visit the submarine and all the submariners' sites (Caution : for security reasons, children under 5 are not allowed to visit Le Redoutable)
Titanic, back to Cherbourg : relive the legend with images and testimonies of this story
We walked under the sea: follow preparation sessions for an underwater exploration. Remember to reserve your place at the cash desk (subject to availability).

###Visiting advice

  • With your ticket you have "direct access" to the site - you can simply present your ticket with the bar code to the control.
  • Your ticket being valid all day long, you have the possibility to go out for lunch and then continue your visit at your own pace.
  • Your children can enjoy an audio guide specially designed for them in the Redoutable (free).

La visite vaut le détour, un peu plus de 4 heures pour notre part. Le lieu est impressionnant avec le sous-marin le Redoutable, l'expo Titanic et les aquariums !
