What to expect

In Bourges, one can visit one of the most beautiful examples of civil architecture from the late Middle Ages. Erected between 1443 and 1451, the Palais Jacques-Cœur is a mansion in the flamboyant Gothic style. The elegance of its facades and especially the profusion of its sculpted decorations give this extraordinary building a majestic character. It must be said that this vast residence was built for one of the most powerful men of the fifteenth century, Jacques Cœur, a merchant at the head of numerous trading posts throughout Europe and treasurer to King Charles VII. Visiting the Palais Jacques-Cœur today is an opportunity to admire this beautifully restored mansion but also to learn more about this colorful character.
