What to expect

The basilica of Saint-Denis is a unique site that allows you to embrace centuries of French monarchy history in a single glance. Located at the gates of Paris, this magnificent Gothic edifice - the first of its kind - houses the tombs of a significant number of French monarchs: 43 kings and 32 queens rest in its crypt for eternity, from the well-known King Dagobert to Louis-Philippe, the last king of the French, beneath intricately sculpted effigies with touching care. Within the church, the serene ambiance, far from the bustle of Parisian monuments, offers a genuine moment of spirituality.

The Saint-Denis Basilica Cathedral is easily accessible by public transport; Paris Metro line 13 drops you at the foot of the Basilica which houses the tombs of 43 kings and 32 queens of France.
