What to expect

Perched on its rocky spur between Strasbourg and Colmar, the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle imposes powerful sensations from the first glance. With its massive silhouette from another time, it transports to the heart of medieval history. Walls of enclosure, square keep, door of honor, one finds oneself immersed in the universe of chivalry. From the 12th century, the lords succeeded each other. A stronghold of the Hohenstaufen Germanic princely family, the fortress quickly passed into the hands of the Alsatian nobles Rathsamhausen. Then, for a short time, as a den of brigands, she saw the ambitions of Emperor William II extended. In this place steeped in history, magic works on young and old alike.

Opening hours of the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle

January, February, November and December: from 9.30 am to 12 pm and from 1 pm to 5.15 pm
March and October: 9:30 am to 5:45 pm
April, May and September: 9:15 am to 6 pm
June, July and August: 9.15 am to 6.45 pm

The castle is open all year except January 1st, May 1st and December 25th.

Public transport
Haut-Koenigsbourg shuttle bus from Sélestat SNCF station. Price: 2.50 euros: valid for a one-way ticket with or without a change. Free for children under 4 years old
Every day from April 7th to May 6th, from June 9th to September 9th and from October 20th to November 4th, 2018.
The shuttle timetable is based on the arrival times of TER trains from Strasbourg, Colmar, Mulhouse or Basel.
