What to expect

On the banks of the Garonne, in the heart of Bordeaux’s eco-district, stands a futuristic building built of curved aluminium and steel, its form designed to resemble wine swirling in a glass. This is the Cité du Vin - literally the City of Wine - opened in 2016 and dedicated to celebrating wine and viticulture in France and around the world. Inside this intriguing building, visitors can discover everything there is to know about one of France’s most famous - and popular! - exports. Tickets are valid for a full day, allowing you to skip the queues and follow the museum’s designated route through the dazzling spaces of the building to the real highlight: a wine tasting at the top, 55 metres up.

Opening hours for the Cité du Vin

From January 7th to April 5th, 2019: open daily from 10am to 6pm
From April 6th to September 1st, 2019: open daily from 10am to 7pm
From September 2, 2019 to January 5, 2020: open Monday to Friday excluding holidays from 10am to 18pm. Weekends, holidays and school holidays from 10am to 7pm.

Tips for your visit

  • Tickets for the Cité du Vin bought on Ticketeaser.com are queue-jump tickets. You have privileged access and do not have to go through the ticket office on site.
  • Tickets are accepted on smartphone
  • The permanent exhibition of the Cité du Vin lasts between 2 and 3 hours.
  • Cancellation conditions: tickets cannot be cancelled, cannot be refunded.

La Cité du Vin de Bordeaux in a few words

A unique cultural establishment, halfway between a museum and a theme park, the Cité du Vin offers a permanent exhibitions, temporary exhibitions, workshops and meeting and degustation places: reading rooms, cellar-library, a wine bar and restaurants.

This unique building with its monumental and futuristic architecture offers a cultural and sensory journey through the history of wine, the landscapes it has shaped and the people who have cultivated it. It is thanks to a digital guide that you will make the visit at your own pace and according to your desires: your headset automatically triggers multimedia content enriched according to your movements and stops among the 20 stages that make up the permanent route on 3,000 m² of exhibition space. Allow 2 to 3 hours to discover these thematic areas. Don't miss "The buffet of the 5 senses" where your taste and your sense of smell will be solicited, and finally the highlight of the visit: the tasting of a glass of wine or grape juice on a 35 meters high Belvedere with an exceptional view on Bordeaux and the Garonne. And to extend both the view and the taste experience, finish your visit at the "7" table, a panoramic restaurant located on the 7th floor.

A sensory journey immersed in the secrets of wine, the Cité du Vin does not forget to prevent the effects of alcohol abuse in its "Drink and Disasters" area. Accessible on foot, by bike, by tramway, by bus, or by boat, leave your car to fully enjoy the tastings!
