What to expect

Your first sight of Musée Granet, in the historic heart of Aix-en-Provence, is an impressive one. Housed in a 19th century building, the neo-classical architecture forms a fine showcase to rival the excellence of the collections within. Inside, the great names of European paintings - Rembrandt, Giacometti and Ingres among them - offer a cross-section of art history. Whether you're fascinated by Biblical or secular scenes, Flemish portraits from the 17th century, French 19th century romantic works - or even abstracts from the 20th century - this is the place for you. Quite simply it is one of the richest art collections in this area. To complete your cultural feast, take a detour to the beautifully restored 17th century Chapel of White Penitents where Granet XXe - denoting 20th century - awaits you, housing the dazzling collection of art dealer Jean Planque. Savour great moments there with the works of Picasso, Cezanne and Kandinsky among many others.
