Palace of Versailles

4.9/5
Official residence of the kings of France, sublime palace full of history

What to expect

The soft and airy architecture of Vaux-le-Vicomte is unparalleled in its ability to surprise visitors and impart a sense of harmony and serenity. This style sharply contrasts with the more stringent classicism of Versailles, even though both were built during the same historical period. This difference highlights the rivalry between Nicolas Fouquet, the wealthy master of Vaux-le-Vicomte, and the proud Sun King!

Vaux-le-Vicomte continues to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors today, primarily because of its prime location in Seine-et-Marne, close to Paris. Beyond this convenience, many come specifically to admire the vast French formal garden conceived by the famous André Le Nôtre.
